Love.&nbsp;&nbsp;I can\u2019t say that Philadelphia was on my \u2018list\u2019 of cities to visit, but a conference took me there in October 2018 for a couple of days.&nbsp;&nbsp;Known for cheesesteaks and the Rocky Balboa statue, I really didn\u2019t know what else to expect.&nbsp;&nbsp;To my surprise, it is a historic city with a modern vibe and more of a foodie spot than I anticipated.&nbsp;&nbsp;That\u2019s why food in Philly gets its own <a href=\"http:\/\/explorewithelisha.azurewebsites.net\/index.php\/philadelphia-for-foodies-best-places-to-eat\/\">blog<\/a>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You know I am a fan of Marriott hotels, usually booked with points.  The best location to stay is right downtown in the heart of everything at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marriott.com\/hotels\/travel\/phldt-philadelphia-marriott-downtown\/?scid=bb1a189a-fec3-4d19-a255-54ba596febe2\">Philadelphia Marriott Downtown<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0Easily accessible from the airport by the metro and linking tunnels!\u00a0\u00a0It is ideally located near the Reading Terminal Market, shopping and many cultural attractions, and only 8 blocks from Independence Hall.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If it is your first time in Philly like me \u2013 here is my list of the must-see sites!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Philadelphia City Hall<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 It is the largest municipal building in the USA and located beside the famous LOVE sculpture.\u00a0\u00a0It towers quite high and there is an observation deck that offers a great view of the city.\u00a0\u00a0You can opt for a 15-minute tower tour, which includes information on the history and architecture.\u00a0\u00a0If you don\u2019t go in, it is definitely worth walking by for a photo op.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Independence Hall &amp; Liberty Bell<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 These two spots hold monumental significance for the USA, with the birthplace of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence.  It&#8217;s the original symbol of freedom and perseverance.\u00a0\u00a0The Bell is free to visit, drawing in lots of tourists to snag a picture overlooking the Independence Hall.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Philadelphia Museum of Art<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 If you have ever watched the Rocky movies, you know this view all too well!&nbsp;&nbsp;Known as the Rocky Steps, it is where Rocky Balboa ran up the now-famous 72 stone steps.&nbsp;&nbsp;Here you find loads of tourists \u2013 taking pictures and many locals running the stairs as part of their workouts.&nbsp;&nbsp;There is a strong possibility you will also here the Rocky Theme being played from someone\u2019s smart phone as people run up the stairs pumping their fists in the air!&nbsp;&nbsp;Once you have reached the top, turn around to absorb the impressive view of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and the skyline of the city!&nbsp;&nbsp;If art is your jam tour the museum.&nbsp;&nbsp;Before leaving, grab your photo of the bronze Rocky statue from Rocky III and think to yourself \u201cNothing is real, if you don\u2019t believe in who you are\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Benjamin Franklin Parkway<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Think Paris\u2026this was modelled after the Avenue des Champs-Elys\u00e9es.&nbsp;&nbsp;Enroute to the Museum of Art, you will likely have walked this scenic boulevard that runs through the cultural heart of Philly.  Close by, you will find the Franklin Institute, the Rodin Museum, Museum of Art, and the Eastern State Penitentiary.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Elfreth\u2019s Alley<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 This cobblestone street is worth strolling down with 32 houses on the street, all of which were built between 1728 and 1836.&nbsp;&nbsp;It is the oldest residential street in America and it\u2019s adorable!&nbsp;&nbsp;You will find this street nestled between Second Street and the Delaware River.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Penn\u2019s Landing\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 A short walk from the Old City and the Historic District you will find Penn\u2019s Landing where outdoor concerts and festivals are held.\u00a0\u00a0Offering panoramic views of the river and the Benjamin Franklin Bridge.\u00a0\u00a0The Benjamin Franklin Bridge connects Philadelphia to New Jersey \u2013 the bridge offers stunning views of the river and the city skyline especially at sunset.\u00a0\u00a0A couple of areas to tour include the Cherry Street Pier, Race Street Pier and Spruce Street Harbour Park.\u00a0\u00a0Cherry Street Pier is an old shipping dock that has great restaurants and outdoor shops.\u00a0\u00a0The Race Street Pier is where you will find a multi-tiered seating area with soaring bridge views located in the shadow of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge filled with runners, sunbathers, dogs and picnickers.\u00a0\u00a0There is also free yoga offered daily spring through fall at this pier.\u00a0\u00a0Finally, the Spruce Street Harbour Park is often referred to as the best urban beach.\u00a0\u00a0Here you will find a boardwalk, beer garden, floating barges that hosts The Blue Anchor \u2013 Jose Garces\u2019 restaurant and bar.
