New Orleans – My Absolute Favourite Way to Spend the Day!

April, 2017

When you first think of NOLA, what comes to mind?  Bourbon Street, Canal Street shopping, trolleys, live music, art, culture, jazz, beignets, steamboats, cemeteries, or the French Quarter?

NOLA is an annual trip for us – come enjoy my picture-perfect day.  I love this city as I feel it has everything I enjoy – epic food, live music, cobblestone streets, and a European flare.  There is just something magical and frolicsome about this place.

Explore the charms of the French Quarter by strolling some of the quieter streets that lead to Jackson Square, where you can enjoy street performers galore and tour the talented local artists’ work at the foot of the soaring St. Louis Cathedral.  On Royal Street, you will enjoy art galleries and antique shops.  Decatur Street has more of a hipster vibe and borders the Café Du Monde..beignets anyone?  Chartres Street will cut right to Jackson Square, but before making it there, enjoy all the galleries, souvenir shops and quaint boutiques along the way.

Once you’ve enjoyed the music, art and shopping, continue to make your way toward the French Market, or the Shops of Colonnade.  Perhaps pick up a souvenir or try some local cuisine – gator on a stick. We have coasters and two local artisan prints designed on reclaimed wood from hurricane Katrina as souvenirs. Now an afternoon would not be complete without some authentic live entertainment, making your way to Frenchman Street and specifically, Bamboulas.  Enjoy your favourite cocktails while taking in all that jazz.

If the night is still young continue exploring the three-blocks in the Faubourg Marigny area, as they are home to various live music venues, cafés, shops and restaurants.  Finally, making your way to Three Muses for some local jazz, and some of best internationally inspired small plates and cocktails.  Make a reservation (via phone only) and enjoy traditional NOLA style ensemble playing.  Our top choices for shareables include braised meatballs, fish tacos, roasted brussels sprouts, and of course, gumbo.
